Coaching Techniques and Skills for Driving Instructors

 

On 25th March 2010 the Driving Standards Agency published their new “Safe & Responsible Driving Standard” ™©.

The new National Standard for Driving for drivers of Category B vehicles sets out the Skills, Knowledge & Understanding required for driving in this modern age and is accompanied by a detailed ‘syllabus’. It is likely the new syllabus will form the basis of the new ‘instructor standard currently being evaluated.

The emphasis of driver training is now moving towards the developing of driver attitude as well as the traditional vehicle handling and traffic situation coping skills.

The long overdue move to ‘attitudinal’ training requires that the vast majority of qualified ADI’s will have to modify their training style quickly if they are to survive professionally in the future. The ‘buzzword’ being used is COACHING.

Coaching is designed to develop the awareness and responsibility of the person being coached. There is nothing new about ‘coaching’ – the good professional instructor will have been using ‘coaching’ techniques for years even though they may not have recognised the fact.

We offer a course to quickly develop and expand specific coaching skills to help you lead the field in modern instruction and meet the new standards that will be introduced by the DSA.

The Absolute training philosophy has always been focussed on the development of driver (and instructor) attitude and your trainer has used ‘coaching’ technique for years to produce drivers and instructors of way above average expectations.

Dates are now available for 1 day coaching seminars. 

As coaching is ‘interactive’ the coaching seminars will be 'group' sessions attended by likeminded instructors.  The sessions will also be open to any instructors currently in training with Absolute or any other training provider.

You will be presented with a certificate to confirm your development session and you may use this as evidence to support your CPD activity.
